Our general contour tolerance is ± 0.2 mm, which is sufficient for most decorative, model and component manufacturing tasks.
The positioning accuracy of our machines and the right angle of the X, Y, Z axes are calibrated within the entire working area and are within a few hundredths of a millimeter. The positioning of the axes is done with high-end AC servo drives and ball screws, despite this, several factors affect the dimensional accuracy of the workpieces:
- Spot shape: the spot of the CO2 laser tubes and diode lasers we also use is not completely circular due to the principle of operation, which is why the size of the cutting gap may change depending on the direction in which the laser head moves.
- Optical path length: since the CO2 laser beam reaches the laser head via a mirror optical path, the path length of the laser varies depending on which part of the work area the machine is currently working on, and as the path length increases, the power loss at the cutting point increases, which also affects the width of the cutting gap.
- Material homogeneity: in the case of plywood and other natural materials, the complete homogeneity of the material cannot be ensured: the material can be softer or harder (lumps) in some places, so it is not the same in all places to cut such materials, which also affects the size of the cutting gap and the surface quality.
- Tapered edge: due to the focused beam, the cutting edge is slightly slanted, this is more visible in thicker material, but not noticeable in paper-thin materials.
When to choose another technology
If hundredths of a millimeter fitting accuracy you need (e.g. pin-groove precision mechanics, e.g. ISO 2768-fH), we recommend CNC milling or high-resolution 3D printing.
